Distribution Supervisor

 

SUMMARY

Leads and coordinates all activities of assigned hourly personnel within a production/distribution area.  Plans and coordinates workflow and manpower to meet daily production/shipping schedules.  Responsible for productivity, quality, scrap/rework, safety, housekeeping, etc.  Reports directly to supervisor of production/distribution area.  This person establishes work assignments, reviews work, and recommends discipline as needed for other employees.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Plans and assigns manpower in a fair and impartial manner.

 

Coordinates and maintains general housekeeping.

 

Ensures appropriate communication between shifts.

 

Routinely communicates information to hourly work force.

 

Maintain employee attendance records, properly codes and signs payroll records.

 

Provides positive reinforcement and motivates employees.

 

Participates with supervisor in formal evaluations of hourly employees and administration of merit pay system.

 

Participates with supervisor in conducting disciplinary action as required by the work rules.

 

Assists in planning and execution of schedule requirements.

 

Ensures employee safety utilizing preventative measures.

 

Provides employee training and development.

 

Ensures that the appropriate production/shipment levels are efficiently achieved.

 

Openly supports all operating and management principles identified by the company.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 35 to 40 employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; making recommendations to supervisors regarding appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Manufacturing

1.  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.

2.  Ability to read and understand blue prints.

3.  Must have working knowledge of all equipment and processes in the assigned area.

4.  Knowledge of quality specifications and requirements.

  1. Previous effective leadership experience required.
  2. Must have experience/ability to use Microsoft Excel, SAP and other computer software and systems as necessary to track department metrics and report on department productivity.

 

Distribution

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
  2. Thorough working knowledge of shipping operations, inventory systems, WMS and SAP
  3. Previous effective leadership experience required.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.  The noise level in the manufacturing work environment is usually loud.

 

Personal protective equipment is required in all operational areas including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel toed safety shoes, and hearing protection.  When handling in-process parts or finished goods, protective sleeves and gloves must be worn.  Hard hats are required in all distribution rack areas.  Other equipment may be required depending on the task assignment.
