Job Title: Engineering Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineering Supervisor is the leader of a team responsible for development for Ride Control system-level designs to Tenneco requirements, and customer defined specifications and reliability targets.  The team member collaborates with Customer Engineers, Designers, Subject Matter Expert Engineers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Program Management in the development, management, and execution of the program.  This Engineering Supervisor has considerable technical knowledge and must provide technical guidance to the engineering team to ensure executed programs are delivered on time and to the highest level of quality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Technical Leader & Mentor

Provide oversight and technical leadership to the Engineering team to ensure industry-leading analysis methods are accurately utilized, program risks identified with appropriate mitigation validation activities forecast, and ensure program documentation is current and complete. 

  • Manage the primary Engineering interface for both internal and external customer. 
  • Provide technical related project management oversite to ensure programs are delivered on time & with technical accuracy.
    • Ensure design meets all customer and internal targets, specifications and requirements.  
    • Release DV and PV levels models and prints both internally and at the customer. 
    • Lead PFR&A reviews to ensure buyoff at the major milestones.
    • Lead all engineering efforts to ensure milestones are met. 
  • Provide leadership on issue/problem resolution and apply strategies to achieve organizational goals.
    • Work with the validation engineer to apply multi-physics computational methods (e.g., CAD, FEA, CAE/CAM) to conduct failure diagnosis to address/resolve complex engineering problems.
    • Provide support/help/advice on test methods to ensure all targets are met.
    • Lead by applying a strategic vision to resolve program related issues or customer concerns.   
  • Provide technical & strategic leadership in direct support of, and direct interface with, customers.
    • Engage in customer negotiations regarding application of validation technology, validation approaches, requirements rationalization, and quantification of project/program risk to Tenneco.
    • Drive technology, methods and process excellence to customers.
  • Project technical leadership on behalf of Tenneco to assigned customers.

 

 

  • Team Development

Train, guide and coach Engineers by improving their technical and leadership skills; support continuous learning through application of technology and methods development; and help develop a strategic personal career growth plan and vision.

  • Provide direct guidance in the Tenneco TenPLUS product launch process through direct program support and execution.  
  • Develop and maintain competency metrics and create customized growth plans for Engineers. 
    • Track training, achievement & provide proof of competencies.
  • Identify and nurture both new and existing talent within the team.
  • Coaching of engineers to analyzes complex data/outputs (e.g., simulations, FEA) to optimize designs, solve problems or establish engineering guidelines/standards.

 

  • Metrics & Tracking
  • Own the Engineering metrics for the team.
  • Own the development of related program tracking metrics, and tracking tools.
  • Lead TenPLUS program report-out metrics; including PFR&A, Executive Program Reviews or Design for Manufacturing Reviews.

 

  • General Duties / Guidelines
  • Help fill resource gaps: due to new program start, hiring, engineer vacation, or technical knowledge gaps.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationship with assigned customer(s).
  • Work with other engineering managers to ensure programs are effectively resourced.  Ensure Engineers have the necessary support and help to manage program activities.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Occasional overnight travel will be required to support manufacturing plant(s)
  • Local travel will be required to support customer

  • Working knowledge of GD&T and how to apply it on 2D prints.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methodology.
  • A bias for action and ability to positively motivate the team to accomplish objectives
  • Minimum requirement is a B.S. Engineering, Science, or Statistics with at least 6 years experience in a related field.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
